Bold statement: Strictly Come Dancing is turning Musicals Week into a high-octane spectacle you won’t want to miss. And this is the part most people miss: the show is pulling out all the stops with a brand-new relay performance that sets the stage for an epic night of dancing and drama.
This weekend, Strictly Come Dancing treats viewers to an extra spark of glamour as the couples take the floor in a special five-minute relay number to kick off Musicals Week. The routine, a lively celebration of musical theatre, features dances to beloved songs from stage and screen, including My Fair Lady, Oliver!, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and Mary Poppins Returns. Expect a blend of London’s East End energy and West End showmanship, with plenty of Strictly magic to rally the audience for votes.
Eight additional dancers will join the couples, who will perform relay-style to the following tunes:
- Amber Davies and Nikita Kuzmin — Trip A Little Light Fantastic from Mary Poppins Returns
- Balvinder Sopal and Julian Caillon — With A Little Bit Of Luck from My Fair Lady
- George Clarke and Alexis Warr — Consider Yourself from Oliver!
- Karen Carney and Carlos Gu — Flash Bang Wallop from Half A Sixpence
- Lewis Cope and Katya Jones — Me Ol’ Bamboo from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Choreographed by Matt Flint, the routine will begin and end with all couples dancing together, creating a shared moment of group energy before resuming their individual performances for the judges.
After the relay, Strictly Come Dancing continues with each couple performing their previously announced routine for mark placements from the judges. Viewers will then vote to decide who advances to the following weekend’s semi-final.
The opening group relay marks a new feature for Musicals Week, following last week’s praised Instant Dance challenge. This weekend also features notable numbers from Strictly’s professional dancers performing Cell Block Tango from Chicago, as well as exclusive performances from former contestant Tom Fletcher—appearing with Paddington Bear—and the cast of Titanique, the Olivier Award-winning musical.
Schedule: Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturday 6 December at 6:50pm and Sunday 7 December at 7:45pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
