"Tour buses bring much-needed visitors to our country, and we embrace that," Loke explained. "However, when it comes to express bus services, that's where we draw the line."
But here's where it gets controversial...
Loke revealed that Singapore had requested permission for its express buses to operate in Malaysia, but there's a catch. "Singapore's transport system doesn't recognize express buses as a legal category. They only acknowledge tour buses and scheduled buses," he clarified.

Despite Singapore's request, Malaysia stands firm on its position. "We will not allow express bus services from Singapore to operate in our country," Loke asserted.
The minister's response came in the context of a parliamentary discussion on bus inspections and safety compliance. Opposition MP Ahmad Marzuk Shaary raised concerns about Singaporean tour buses operating in Malaysia without proper inspections or adherence to local safety standards.
"These operators have exploited the system," Loke acknowledged. "Allowing Singaporean express buses would put our local operators at a disadvantage, and we won't let that happen."
