Shincheonji Volunteers: Expanding Outreach Through Collaboration
Driven by a simple yet powerful belief in spreading love and making a positive impact, Shincheonji Volunteers, the outreach arm of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus, is making waves in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe. Their dedication to community service has recently earned them a nomination for the prestigious South African Heroes Award (SAHA), leaving the volunteers overjoyed and grateful.
The group's faith-based approach is at the heart of their work, as they believe that their efforts are made possible through divine intervention. They actively respond to community needs, often collaborating with schools, ward councillors, and other stakeholders to identify areas requiring assistance. Their diverse initiatives include stationery drives, career guidance sessions, anti-bullying campaigns, and clean-up projects, ensuring a holistic approach to community development.
One of their most heartwarming endeavors was the Easter mural painting at the Malaika orphanage, where the children's enthusiasm and joy inspired the volunteers to continue their efforts. This experience reminded them of the profound impact of their volunteer work.
In addition to their regular activities, Shincheonji Volunteers organize Christmas drives at Sparrows Village and actively seek opportunities to support vulnerable communities. Despite financial challenges, the volunteers often sacrifice their time and resources to sustain their initiatives. The group has received appreciation and invitations to join local outreach programs, and they have also been grateful for the media support they have received.
Encouraging residents to contribute their time, the volunteers emphasize that volunteerism begins with a willing heart. Nkazimulo Prince Ncube, an aspiring journalist interning at Caxton, highlights the potential for collective action, stating, 'If we all try to help, even in small ways, those efforts together can make a big change.'
Looking forward, Shincheonji Volunteers aspire to collaborate more closely with other organizations and various levels of government to expand their reach and support an even greater number of communities.
