Over the past two weeks, several federal departments, including Statistics Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, and Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, have notified employees of potential job cuts. For instance, Statistics Canada confirmed it will eliminate 850 positions over the next two years, with 100 jobs cut immediately. Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada announced that approximately 1,100 employees would receive notices, with 45 executive and 569 non-executive positions on the line. Even Natural Resources Canada is planning to cut 400 positions, with 700 employees already notified.
But here’s the controversial part: While the government argues these cuts are necessary for fiscal responsibility, critics warn they could undermine essential public services.
